We Will Not Allow Day Scholars In Our School - Starehe Boys Centre

Top performing and one of the most admired national schools, Starehe Boys' Centre, has protested against admission of day scholars. As the official roll out of Free Day Secondary Education program commenced on Tuesday, January 9, the institution indicated that it will not enroll day scholars as was directed by the government.

According to the school's director, Charles Masheti, they already have over 280 bording students in Form One and are not likely to exceed that number by bringing in more students.

Masheti said admitting the day scholars will expose the institution to numerous challenges already discussed with the Ministry of Education. The government introduced Free Day Secondary Education program to accommodate students who scored highly in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) but cannot afford to join national schools.

The free day scholars education program was well received by most parents who felt that the cost of taking their brilliant sons and daughters to the best schools was beyond them. Besides the free education initiative, the government also decided to supply public primary and secondary schools with textbooks.
