Sonko reacts to Igathe's resignation

Nairobi county governor, Mike Mbuvi Sonko, has reacted swiftly to the resignation of his deputy governor Polycard Igathe. In a short and precise statement seen by Tuko.co.ke on the evening of Friday, January 12, moments after Igathe hanged up his boots as the deputy governor of Nairobi, Sonko simply confirmed reception of the resignation letter.

"The governor has received the letter and is currently considering it. He will issue a comprehensive response at a later time," the statement read.

In his resignation letter, Igathe lamented about frustrations by his boss whom he accused of not giving him sufficient room to perform his duties as the deputy governor. He also said he had failed to win over Sonko's trust despite several attempts. This left him with no other option but to quit.

Igathe's exit comes roughly five months after the duo were elected into office in the August 8, 2017 poll. There were claims that the marriage between the two was not working out as was expected. It is interesting how things panned out because in previous reports by Tuko.co.ke, Governor Sonko angrily rubbished claims that he had a frosty relationship with his deputy.

For the time being, Kenyans will be waiting with abated breath to see what Sonko will do next now that his deputy is out of the way.
